Description: | As the Technical Manager, you will oversee the technical team responsible for product quality, product specification, regulations, food safety audits, quality assurance and quality control. You will play a key role in overseeing supplier quality, food safety, and continuous improvements within the chilled food manufacturing facility. You will be at the forefront of ensuring compliance with food safety, quality management systems, and industry regulations including: Supplier Quality Assurance: Conduct and participate in supplier audits and inspections. Approve new raw materials and packaging for product development. Ensure raw materials meet specifications and manage relationships with suppliers. Quality & Food Safety: Implement and maintain Food Safety and Quality Management systems (e.g., FSSC 22000, ISO14000, ISO45000). Ensure food safety traceability, and oversee compliance with relevant legislation and labeling requirements. Monitor and improve GMP and PRP programs. Manage corrective actions and internal audits to drive continuous improvement. Stakeholder/Customer Relations: Understand and meet customer requirements, ensuring product specifications are up to date. Manage and resolve customer complaints efficiently and professionally. Collaborate with the NPD department for product development. Departmental Management: Oversee departmental budgets and vendor management. Ensure HR policies and procedures are followed. Lead strategic planning for departmental goals. This position calls for a BSc degree in Food Science/ min B.Tech Food Technology with at least 5+ years of experience in the FMCG foods industry. Experience with value added products such as dairy and cured meat a strong advantage. Furthermore, at least 5+ years in a Technical Manager role focussed on food technology. Experience working with Woolworths or similar major customers. You need strong auditing experience supported by relevant qualifications as well as proficiency in MS Office, Excel, and electronic document management systems. Your knowledge of food labelling standards and machine specifications is advantageous. Essential is a valid Driver’s License. The ability to work independently and maintain high standards, managing pressure and deadlines effectively and efficiently (some work on weekends or after hours may be required). You have strong leadership, teamwork, and negotiation skills, excellent communication and problem-solving abilities and you are detail orientated. A passion for food goes without saying!
